Ever since I was a little girl I would chew and pick at my nails.. not once have i had long nails or appropriate female looking nails...I have been chewing my nails and picking at them for what seems to be nerves..but i don't quite believe that anymore...cause I bite my nails very often...even as Im sitting here writing to you... my father always bought me these nail polishes and one clear on that was supposed to make you gag cause is tasted so bad.. but i just would spit that part out and keep on chewing..right now my nails are sooo short you can see the skin under my nail.. and sometimes i even bite at the skin.. Im getting too old for biting my nails ...and I want to stop... I stoped without anything for a month and a half..and i didn't see any results.. my nails didn't even budge..well at least it didn't look it.. please help.. i have a prom to go to in a few weeks and Im going to wear acrylics but the only problem is i'll tear them right off because they don't feel right because my nails are soo short...is there any goood product I can buy like from Sallys Beauty Supply, or a retail store?? Please i need some help.. and these days are going fast

You can do this. I'm a 48 year old woman who just stopped biting over Christmas this year. I did it once before when I got married 28 years ago but went right back to it. Anyway, I got the acrylics and wore them for three weeks (I hated them) but that helped with the habit of biting. Then I had them taken off and polished, polished, polished. Sometimes, I would pick at the polish but never bite. Yes, they are just now getting long so it's a slow process but there are starting to look GOOD. And it is April 6th, so don't get discouraged. It can be done. I just received my first jar of Natural Nails and hope that will help with the ridges and easy tearing I'm experiencing. If I can do it after all these years, you can too. Hang in there, Kim. I know you'll be the most beautiful girl at the prom.

I am a 45 year old male, and I've always picked at my fingernails. I've never bit or chewed on my nails. They have always looked awful. Any suggestions?

I have always bitten my nails I got extensions and I didn't touch them because they looked nice but as soon as they came off I started to bite them again. I now take multivitamins and look after my diet and I have found that my nails are alot stronger and I don't have the urge to bite them but I don't know how long it will last I also find using a good quality hand cream also benefits as it takes my mind off wanting to bite them. When I want to bite I just use hand cream!!

Just a follow up note. Me, who never thought she could grow her nails, not only has done so but the cream has really made them strong. They have not broken or snagged since I started it. BUT... and here's the irony ...I decided it's never too late to try things so I started Aikido (a martial arts course) and had to cut my nails because they had gotten so long. So I guess the lesson is in the journey not the destination. I know now I can grow my nails and it's really been empowering. I agree that rubbing the cream in daily has helped me consciously want to take care of my nails and not bite or pick at them. It really is a good product althought I have no clue why or what is in it. That's the only downfall. I hate using product when I'm not sure what it is I'm putting on my body. I really think the ingredients should be on the jar.

The ingredients are listed on the back of the large jar of Natural Nails Growth Formula. But the small jar was too small to list the ingredients on. The ingredients include lanolin, oxyquinolin, aromatics. beeswax, petroleum, sodium barate, water, wintergreen and mustard oil.

Thanks for the list, Barbara. I am just getting ready to order the whole $49.95 package. It really has been wonderful seeing my nails get strong and not snag on every little thing and these results are after only a month. Thank you.

HELP!!
I've been biting my fingernails for as long as I can remember. My father's nails look TERRIBLE and I'm afraid mine will end up looking like his soon. I've been searching the web looking for remedies and haven't found anyone who has the same problem I do..
..I enjoy chewing on fingernails. I've tried chewing on toothpicks, gum, small plastic pieces, etc. and none of those objects compare to the wonderful shape and structure of a fingernail.. I even tried searching the web for a place to order fake fingernails to chew on. I don't believe I'll ever stop biting unless I can find something as enjoyable to keep my mouth busy on. =(
Would anyone have any advice for me?

I know the feeling. All my close loved ones tell me how horrible they look. I am so embarassed. I hide my hands. I see everyone else with beatiful healthy nails but I then look at my nubs. I am very ashamed. If there is anything out there that can help me please contact me. Thanks. Ashley
