Subject: Excess skin under nails
Message: I slammed my finger in a car door and ended up losing half of my nail right away and then the rest of it was pushed off as the new nail grew back. Unfortunately though ever since I seem to have a disfigured nail and there also seems to be excess skin underneath the new nail.
If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do or any products to help this it would be greatly appreciated.
I also recently removed my acrylic nails and seem to have torn my real nails all the way down to the skin in places. Are there any products or treatments for this as well? It is quite painful and I use my hands a lot for my job.
Thank you.

Message: PLEASE tell me you didn't just pull those acrylics off!!! Always use acetone to remove them... water has no effect on them either. The only thing I can tell you is to keep them dry, and a watchful eye on them for infections setting in.
You probably damaged the root of the nail causing the disfigurement. You didn't say how long ago that you smashed the finger was, but from the day you did it until about 2 to 2 1/2 years later, is going to be the final result of how your nail is going to look. The root has to try to completely heal itself before a permanet look will be accomplished.
